Meanwhile Raises $37.5M as Global Demand Grows

Meanwhile has raised $37.5 million in new funding from its existing investors. Bain Capital Crypto led the round alongside Haun Ventures, Framework Ventures and Pantera Capital. Apollo, Northwestern Mutual Future Ventures and Morgan Creek Digital also participated.

The latest round takes Meanwhile’s total funding above $180 million. The Bermuda-based insurer has gained demand from wealthy Bitcoin holders worldwide. Growth has been strongest across Asia, Europe and the Middle East. The company plans to use the capital to support further international expansion.

The company said broader macroeconomic instability has also increased interest in Bitcoin-based wealth planning. Meanwhile now holds a reported $350 million valuation following the latest funding round. Its investor base also includes Sam Altman, alongside major crypto and institutional investment firms.

BTC Life 1-Pay Targets Wealthy International Clients

Meanwhile launched BTC Life 1-Pay in early 2026 for high-net-worth clients outside the United States. The product is a single-premium whole life insurance policy denominated in Bitcoin. It is the company’s second product line after BTC 10-Pay. That product was designed specifically for US taxpayers.

Under BTC Life 1-Pay, customers make one premium payment using Bitcoin. They then receive a guaranteed death benefit denominated in Bitcoin for life. The policy’s value also grows in Bitcoin over time. After the first year, owners can borrow up to 90% of the policy value.

The borrowing facility has no repayment schedule or margin calls. Policies can also be owned by individuals, trusts or companies. This structure supports succession and estate planning for families holding digital assets. Meanwhile believes such tools can help address challenges around Bitcoin wealth transfers.

Meanwhile has signed 15 brokers serving wealthy families since launching its international offering. The partners operate across major insurance and wealth management hubs. These markets include Singapore, Hong Kong, the UAE and Switzerland.

The company is also working with specialist groups serving high-net-worth clients. Lioner is among its broker partners, with offices across Hong Kong, Singapore and Zurich. Apeiron Group is another partner focused on high-net-worth life insurance.

Lioner said wealthy clients are increasingly considering digital assets within broader wealth planning. The group also highlighted governance, transparency and regulation as important factors. Apeiron Group said digital assets create challenges around ownership, liquidity and wealth transfer.

It added that life insurance could help address those challenges for wealthy families. Meanwhile’s international push comes as its financial performance accelerates. Net long-term underwriting income has already exceeded last year’s total.

Bitcoin-Native Insurance Infrastructure Supports Scale

Meanwhile Insurance Bitcoin (Bermuda) Limited holds the first Class IILT licence granted by the Bermuda Monetary Authority. The insurer received the licence in July 2024 after spending two years in the regulator’s sandbox. Its balance sheet, reserves and audited financial statements are denominated entirely in Bitcoin.

Policyholder Bitcoin is held through regulated institutional custodians. Meanwhile plans to invest its latest funding into its core actuarial software and data science teams. It will also expand its crypto-native legal and compliance workforce.

The company is developing Bitcoin-denominated accident and health insurance products. It also plans to scale its commercial operations globally. Meanwhile says its technology allows it to operate a regulated insurer with a Bitcoin-native infrastructure.

Bain Capital Crypto said the model combines regulated insurance operations with AI-enabled technology. The funding gives additional resources to serve growing international demand. The company aims to make Bitcoin-based wealth protection more accessible across generations.
